VARANASI, Aug. 11 -- Seven people were injured when a sudden fire broke out during Shringar Puja at the Atma Vishweshwar Mahadev Temple near Sankatha Mata Temple temple premises on Saturday night, police said. According to a police officer, the injured included Shivang Mishra (30), Preet (10), Krishna (6), and Satyam, Prince, Baikunth, among others. Locals immediately rushed them to the divisional hospital for treatment. Temple priest Ravinath Mishra said that every year, on the full moon day of the month of Sawan, Shringar and special worship are performed at the Aatma Vishweshwar Mahadev Temple. This year too, the entire temple premises was decorated with cotton. After Saptarishi Arti, the arti lamp was being carried out through the relatively small main gate, the cotton used in the decorations caught fire, which quickly spread. Out of 30 people present in the temple, including the priest, some managed to escape, while seven sustained burn injuries. Upon seeing the fire, locals rushed to the temple and helped carry the injured to the hospital. Soon after receiving the information, police from the Chowk police station and a bike-mounted fire engine reached the spot. With the help of locals, they managed to extinguish the flames. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sarvanan T said that seven people were injured. All are out of danger and were taken to the hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. UPCC president Ajay Rai posted on X, expressing sorrow over the fire at Shri Atma Vishweshwar Mahadev Temple in Varanasi that injured several devotees, and prayed for their speedy recovery....
