60-yr-old man, son killed over property dispute in Rudrapur
Rudrapur, April 29 -- A 60-year-old man and his 26-year-old son were shot dead over a property dispute on Monday in Rudrapur of US Nagar district, police said, adding that one of the accused has been taken into custody.
"The incident took place at around 3 am on Monday. We have formed four police teams to nab the accused. Our teams are scanning CCTV cameras and taking help of surveillance also," US Nagar, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Manikant Mishra said.
He said that the victims, Gurmej Singh and Manpreet Singh, had a property dispute with Saluja family of Model colony. "The Saluja family, who owned a shop in a grain market, had rented the shop to Gurmej who opened the shop under the name of Ludhiana Agro Traders."
"The Saluja family had taken a loan on the shop from a bank but failed to pay back the loan. Failing to pay the instalments and the loan amount, the bank concerned auctioned the shop. During the auction, Gurmej placed the highest bid and bought the shop. However, this irked the Saluja family," Mishra said.
"The Salujas began pressurising Gurmej to hand over the shop to them but he refused to do so. On his denial, Dinesh Saluja (27) and Avdesh Saluja (30) (both brothers) reached the shop with a JCB and associates on Monday early morning. They demolished a wall of the shop. Upon seeing this, the night watchman of the grain market informed Gurmej," he said.
"Upon receiving the information, Gurmej along with his two sons Manpreet and Surendra Singh, alias Honey, rushed to stop the demolition. The argument between both families soon escalated. Police are investigating as the DVR of the CCTV at the shop had broken during demolition. Gurmej and Manpreet received severe injuries while Surendra managed to flee from the spot," the officer said.
He further said that Gurmej's relatives took them to the hospital where both succumbed to their injuries. "On receiving information about the incident, a team of police personnel reached the spot but by then the accused had fled. However, one of them, Dinesh Saluja, was taken into custody as he was sustained bullet injuries on his leg and was admitted to a government hospital. The forensic team has collected samples and evidence, including some cartridges," Mishra said.
A first information report (FIR) was registered against a group of people, including the two suspects, on the basis of a complaint filed by Surendra Singh, the SSP said....
