55 from Varanasi Cantt constituency flag name, photo errors in electoral roll
VARANASI, Feb. 19 -- At least 55 residents of the Cantt Assembly constituency in Varanasi have complained about the errors in the electoral rolls published on January 6 as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The errors include repetition and misspelling of names.
Neeraj Das, a Cantt resident, said, "My niece's name has been printed as Muskan Das Sanjay Das, and her father's name as Sanjay Das Sanjay Das in the electoral roll. She filled out the form correctly. Despite that, her father's name has been added to her name, and his name has been printed twice."Calling it a clear error, Das said his niece has received a notice for correction. "Though she filled in the details correctly, how this happened is surprising," he said. He added that they would visit the notice hearing centre at a primary school in Cantt and submit documents to rectify the mistake.
Shruti Das and Shaurya Das have reported similar errors in their names in the electoral roll. They too have received notices and plan to visit the centre with documents to correct the mistakes.Corporator Rajkumar Das said he has received numerous complaints about spelling mistakes, repetition of names, addition of fathers' names to applicants' names and photo mismatches in the Cantt area electoral rolls. "People filled in their details correctly during the SIR. How so many mistakes occurred is a matter of concern. It appears that the data entry operator may have filled in details arbitrarily while preparing the list," he alleged. He said at least 55 people have raised the issue with him and demanded that the errors be corrected.District magistrate and district election officer Satyendra Kumar said, "The process is underway. Notice hearing centres have been set up to resolve such cases.
All such issues will be addressed."He added that it would be ensured that errors such as repetition of names, misspellings and photo mismatches that have come to light are rectified at the earliest.htc...
