51 e-rickshaws seized, challans issued to 98 in police crackdown
LUCKNOW, Jan. 5 -- Acting on the directions of the joint commissioner of police (law and order), a special enforcement drive was carried out by Hazratganj police on Sunday against illegally operating e-rickshaws and autos in prohibited areas.
During the operation supervised by assistant commissioner of police Vikas Jaiswal, action was taken against vehicles running without valid documents, without police verification, and those violating notified no-entry and restricted routes. The drive was carried out simultaneously by all police outpost in-charges within the Hazratganj police station limits.
Police officials said that during the joint operation, a total of 51 e-rickshaws were seized for serious violations, while 98 others were issued challans for commuting on banned routes and flouting traffic norms. Several vehicles were also found operating without proper registration papers and driver verification, posing a threat to public safety.
Officials said the action was part of an intensified enforcement plan following the recent ban and regulation of e-rickshaw movement on key arterial roads to ease traffic congestion, improve road discipline and ensure commuter safety in the city's busiest commercial zone.
Warning legal action against violators, senior officers said such drives would continue in the coming days....
