50th anniv of Emergency: BJPto observe 'Black Day' today
LUCKNOW, June 25 -- To mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency and to highlight the "atrocities" during the period, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will observe 'Black Day' across the state on Wednesday, with various events lined up.
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders will participate in seminars across Uttar Pradesh districts to discuss the impact of the Emergency on democratic institutions, press freedom, judiciary, and fundamental rights of citizens, according to a statement issued by the party's state leadership.
Exhibitions will be organised at the district level to showcase the struggles faced by people during the Emergency. The BJP's youth and women's wings will conduct 'mock parliament' programmes to educate youngsters about the Emergency's repressive nature and Congress's authoritarian policies, the statement said, adding party leaders would address press conferences to share the truth about the Emergency with the public.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath will address a public meeting in Lucknow, while defence minister Rajnath Singh will participate in a seminar in Barabanki. Other prominent leaders, including Union ministers and state party officials will address seminars in various districts, the statement said....
