50-yr-old mazar built on govtland in Deoria demolished
GORAKHPUR, Jan. 12 -- A 50-year-old mazar allegedly built on government land was demolished in Deoria on Sunday, with police cordoning off the area to ensure law and order, officials said.
The district administration on Sunday deployed bulldozers and demolished the mazar and the boundary wall.
The operation was carried out under heavy police and security presence in compliance with a court directive.
The structure, known as Hazrat Shaheed Syed Abdul Gani Shah Baba shrine, was situated on barren government land and was declared an encroachment by the Sadar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) court.
SDM Shruti Sharma said, "The demolition was conducted strictly in accordance with legal procedures and in a peaceful manner. The situation in the area is completely normal."
Rashid Khan, president of the shrine management committee, confirmed that they were cooperating with the authorities.
