5 of family die in fire at their residence in Bihar
Patna, Nov. 16 -- Five members of a family were charred to death in a massive fire that broke out in their house in Muzaffarpur on Friday night, police said.
The incident occurred on the third floor of Gena Shah's building located in the Motipur locality of the town.
Following the blaze, six other members of the family were rushed to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit. Upon receiving information, fire tenders rushed to the spot and launched an operation to douse the flames. According to the local residents, the fire erupted suddenly with a loud explosion. Within minutes, the entire house was engulfed in flames, trapping several family members. Due to its intensity, the blaze also spread to nearby homes.
Deputy superintendent of police (west) Suchitra Kumari confirmed the incident. "The fire, suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, engulfed the third floor of the building when the occupants were asleep," the DSP said....
