Meerut, Nov. 22 -- Days after the arrest of Jammu and Kashmir's Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather from Saharanpur for his alleged involvement in terrorist activities, authorities have intensified a tenant verification drive in the district. Over the last six days, more than 5,000 tenants and domestic workers have been verified, police officials said. Security measures have also been tightened in the region, with particular focus on Muslim-majority localities where patrolling has been increased and additional police personnel deployed. The explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi took place merely four days after Rather's arrest by the Jammu & Kashmir police on November 6. It later emerged that Rather had been residing in a rented house in Manak Mau in Saharanpur, prompting district officials to expedite verification of all tenants, paying guests, and domestic workers to prevent any potential security lapses. Police teams from every station are now conducting thorough physical verification of residents, going door-to-door. They are scrutinising identity cards, rental agreements, previous addresses, mobile numbers and other documents belonging to tenants, PG residents, and domestic helpers. Simultaneously, surveillance in sensitive areas has been increased, with intensified patrolling to keep a close watch on suspicious movements. "Between November 15 and 20, authorities completed verification of around 3,000 tenants and 2,000 domestic help," they added. Senior superintendent of police Ashish Tiwari appealed to citizens to ensure mandatory police verification before renting out property or employing domestic help.
