40 FIRs filed in statewide driveagainst LPG black marketing
LUCKNOW, March 15 -- The food and civil supplies department, along with district administrations has intensified action against the black marketing and illegal sale of LPG cylinders across Uttar Pradesh. Over the past two days, enforcement teams inspected and raided 2,554 locations as part of a statewide drive to ensure the availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG for the public.
Authorities registered 40 FIRs during the operation. Among these, five cases were filed against LPG distributors, while 35 FIRs targeted individuals involved in illegal LPG trading and black marketing, officials said. Police arrested eight people on the spot, while 37 individuals have been formally prosecuted in connection with the violations, they added.
The government has directed all district magistrates to ensure necessary measures to maintain an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and LPG cylinders. Officials said inspections and enforcement actions would continue to prevent shortages or irregularities in the supply chain.
Officials said that adequate stocks of LPG cylinders are currently available with 4,108 LPG distributors across UP, ensuring that consumers receive refills according to their bookings.
The central government has also permitted the allocation of up to 20% of the total commercial LPG consumption, ensuring that gas supply to commercial establishments remains unaffected. To monitor the supply system and address public complaints quickly, the department has set up a 24-hour control room at the food commissioner's office. Additional control rooms have also been established in the state's home department and in all districts. Officials from district supply offices and local administrations are conducting regular field visits to ensure LPG availability and prevent hoarding or illegal sales....
