40 clubs demand CAL elections through ballot papers on July 26
LUCKNOW, July 18 -- With every passing day, the upcoming elections of the Cricket Association Lucknow is getting marquee as on Thursday as many as 40 clubs raised their voices in support of elections through ballot papers on July 26.
They also threatened to boycott the elections process during the CAl's annual general meeting, if the elections were not done through ballot papers. "Election through ballot papers is a democratic process and it should be adopted to avoid any cheating in the process," CAL's joint secretary, Haider Raza said after the meeting.
"We have also decided to meet the returning officer in a day or two to discuss various other issues as the elections are happening after 19 years as it was last held in the year 2005," he said, adding, "In fact, our intentions are to bring transparency in the CAL as there are many complaints against the officials, who are holding the chairs for the last many years without any break."
Thursday's meeting of 40 clubs, out of 122 in the voters list, also decided to form the "Lucknow Cricket Development Council" to put forward the problems of various clubs and players. Former cricketer Madhukar Mohan was authorised to handle the affairs of the newly formed council.
Mohan later said that the demand to conduct the elections of the executive committee of the association on July 26 through ballot paper in a fair manner was accepted at the meeting.
"So far, more than 50 clubs have informed the returning officer personally or through email about the election process through ballot papers," said Mohan.
All the members present were of the opinion that the election will be valid only if it is conducted through ballot paper. Haider Raza on the occasion demanded that the meeting of the CAL should be held every year. "Renewal of clubs etc., and other processes should be done only after the elections so that all the clubs can put their problems in the meeting. One Shanu said that for the last two years clubs are not being allowed to hold competitions.
In Thursday's meeting, representatives of LCA, LCA Club, Manchester Club, Sony Club, Asha Foundation, Avadh Sky, Indian Club, Kranti Club, Multi Activity, Chandan Eleven, Asha Sports Foundation, Avadh Cricket Club, Champion League, Annapurna Club, Unity Club, Cricket Promotion Group, Unity Club and other clubs were present.
Trials to select the Lucknow athletics team will be held on July 20, at the KD Singh 'Babu' Stadium here under the auspices of the Lucknow Athletics Association.
Its secretary, BR Varun informed that selected teams will participate in the UP State Level B Athletics Championship, scheduled to be held on July 29 and 30, at the Sports College track. Athletes below 16 years of age will not be allowed to participate in the trials.
It was a day of big wins in the District Football League 2025, at the Chowk Stadium here on Thursday as Lucknow Falcon Reserve defeated LDA 'B' by 4-0, whereas FC Lucknow Arrows Club defeated Mamta Club by 5-0.
