4 killed, 3 critically injured as truck hits van in Hamirpur
Jhansi, April 29 -- Four persons died while three were critically injured after the van in which they were travelling was hit by a rashly moving truck on Monday night in Hamirpur district.
The incident occurred on NH 34 near Chikala village under Maudaha police station.
Seven persons from a wedding party were traveling in a van from Damar village in the district toward Mahoba to attend the marriage ceremony.
As their van passed through the Chikala village area, a fast-moving truck coming from Mahoba and going toward Shravasti hit it.
The impact was so severe that the entire van got mangled as the truck dragged the ill-fated vehicle for over 100 metres before stopping.
Bystanders informed the police, and all the victims were sent to the hospital, where four were declared dead.
The deceased were identified as Kamlesh Yadav, 42, Shashikant Kushwaha, 23, Jitendra, 36, and Mohan Kushwaha, 23.
The three injured persons were referred to a higher centre in Kanpur, from where one of them was further referred to Lucknow in critical condition.
DM Hamirpur Abhishek Goyal and SP Hamirpur Mrigayank Shekhar Pathak reached the community health centre where all the victims were initially taken before being referred further.
SP Hamirpur said that the driver of the truck was arrested and the truck was seized. A case was lodged against him under appropriate sections....
