4 held in Rae Bareli for inter-state cyber fraud
LUCKNOW, July 20 -- The Rae Bareli Police have arrested four members of an inter-state gang involved in creating fake social media accounts using the names and photos of high-ranking officials and influential individuals to deceive people, confirmed Rae Bareli police officials in a press note shared with media on Saturday.
They said the gang was operating from Rajasthan.
Rae Bareli Superintendent of Police (SP), Yashveer Singh said those arrested were identified as Lalit, Sahil Khan, Jal Singh, Sahil, all residents of Rajasthan's Alwar district.
He stated that three individuals had already been arrested in connection with this case, and gangster proceedings will be initiated against all the accused soon.
He also appealed to the public to be aware of cybercrime and report any suspicious activity.
Sharing more details Additional SP of Rae Bareli, Sanjeev Sinha informed that the gang created fake Facebook and Instagram accounts using the names and photos of prominent officials, including the SP Raebareli, Yashveer Singh, and IG Jammu and Kashmir.
They would then use these accounts to deceive people and commit fraud.
He said the police took immediate action and registered a case under various sections of the IPC and IT Act and arrested the accused as well as recovered mobile phones used in the commission of the crime....
