VARANASI, Jan. 6 -- Four people were arrested from near Madanpur Canal for allegedly persuading poor folk to convert in a village under the Baragaon police station area of Varanasi, police said on Monday. In a communique, police said that an office-bearer of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Varanasi, had informed the Baragaon Police Station that some people, taking advantage of the helplessness of poor and economically weaker men and women, were luring and persuading them to convert to Christianity. Based on this information, the Baragaon Police Station registered a case under Section 3/5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, regarding illegal religious conversion and initiated legal proceedings. Arrested accused include Mukesh, 51, Krishna Kumar Maurya, 38, Inosh Joseph, 30, and Ravi Joseph, age approximately 54 years, said a police officer and added that further legal action is being taken....
