Dehradun/Rudrapur, April 24 -- Four people died in two separate road accidents in Rudraprayag and Nainital districts, disaster management officials aware of the matter said on Thursday. In the first incident, three people died after a car plunged nearly 250 metres into a deep gorge on the Bhiri-Kakola motor road in Rudraprayag district on Wednesday night. According to officials of the state disaster response force (SDRF), information was received that a vehicle (UK 13 TA 1991) travelling from Bhiri to Auring lost control and fell into the gorge. Following the alert, an SDRF rescue team from the Augustmuni post led by sub-inspector Dharmendra Pawar rushed to the accident site and launched a rescue operation. Officials said the vehicle had fallen into a gorge about 250 metres deep and three people inside the car died on the spot. The SDRF team initiated a rescue and retrieval operation and began bringing the bodies up to the road head. The deceased were identified as Naveen Singh (30), a resident of Auring, Amit Singh (35) and Anshul (28), both residents of Sursal village in Rudraprayag district. In another incident, a 35-year-old motorcyclist died in a road accident on Haldwani road in Kaladhungi area of Nainital district on Thursday morning. According to sub-inspector Tanvir Aalam, investigating officer at Kaladhungi police station, the victim, identified as Pushkar Singh Karki, a resident of Lalkuan, lost control of his motorcycle while attempting to overtake a bus near Guruni nullah. "The bike collided with the rear portion of the bus, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to the community health centre in Kaladhungi where doctors declared him dead," Aalam said. Police reached the hospital after receiving information and took the body into custody before sending it for postmortem examination.
