Rudrapur, June 23 -- A 35-year-old man died and five others injured after a speeding vehicle ran over a group of people celebrating a birthday by the roadside in Tanakpur, police said on Sunday. "Near a parked car along the road in Gaindakhali village, located on the Purnagiri temple road in Champawat district, a group of people were celebrating the birthday of a local resident's nephew. At around 11 pm, the driver of a Max vehicle lost control and rammed into the group. The vehicle was reportedly heading toward the Purnagiri temple at the time of the accident," said inspector Chetan Rawat, in-charge of the Tanakpur police station. "After receiving information about the accident, a team from the Tanakpur police station rushed to the spot and transported the victims to the government hospital using the 108 ambulance service. One of the victims, identified as Nirmal Singh, a resident of Karki Farm Colony in Tanakpur, was declared dead on arrival by doctors,' he said. He further said the injured were identified as Yogesh Singh, Pawan Singh Kanwal, Mahesh Bora, Mohit Kanwal - all residents of Gaindakhali village - and Rakesh Bora, the driver of the Max vehicle. Rawat said Yogesh and Pawan were referred to a higher medical facility due to the severity of their injuries, "We have handed over the deceased's body to his family after post-mortem. An FIR will be registered once we receive a formal complaint," the inspector added....
