35 temporary shelters coming up for homeless in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 27 -- With the winter chill setting in, Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) is setting up 35 new temporary shelters for the city's homeless and destitute persons, said chief engineer Anil Maurya.
The new shelters will work in addition to the nine existing permanent shelters. Five of the 35 facilities will be 'pink night shelters', meaning they would be specifically for women and children.
The 35 new shelters are being built with a budget of Rs.64,15,680, with tenders already opened and the project is expected to be completed by December 15. Among them, 25 will be modelled after a pagoda. These tent-like structures will be waterproof, fireproof, and open on one side for safety and ventilation, making them ideal for quick deployment across different city locations, said the official.
Deputy municipal commissioner Deependra Yadav said all shelters will have drinking water, electricity, bonfires, bedding, and blankets, along with high standards of cleanliness. Helpline numbers for women's safety will be prominently displayed in all pink night shelters.
To make the shelters more welcoming, some will feature LED TVs and toys for children, and a literary touch reflecting Prayagraj's rich cultural heritage. Residents will have access to books by renowned writers....
