32 UP districts declared flood hit, many rivers in spate
LUCKNOW, Aug. 8 -- Thirty-two districts in Uttar Pradesh were declared flood affected on Thursday even as heavy rain lashed various places leading to rise in the water level of the major rivers.
According to the data released by the UP relief commissioner office, 1,448 villages and 46,497 hectare agriculture land have been flooded in which 3,58,459 people have been hit in the above-mentioned districts.
According to the UP irrigation and water resources department data, while the Ganga was flowing above danger level in Badaun, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ghazipur and Ballia districts, its level was near the danger mark in Mirzapur and Farrukhabad districts.
River Sharda was flowing near the danger mark in Lakhimpur Kheri and the level of the Ghaghra was above danger in Barabanki and near the danger mark in Ballia and Ayodhya districts.
In a press statement, relief commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami said, "Due to rise in the water level of the river, 45 villages are facing erosion and the link road connecting 349 villages have been eroded while 396 villages have been marooned."
The 32 flood-affected districts include Bahraich, Barabanki, Ballia, Basti, Bijnor, Badaun, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hapur, Hardoi, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Meerut, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Shahjahanpur, Shravasti, Varanasi, Agra, Auraiya, Banda, Etawah, Fatehpur, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Bhadohi, Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur Nagar....
