3 youths feared drowned in Ghaghara river
GORAKHPUR, Sept. 30 -- At least three youths were feared drowned in the Ghaghara river in Deoria district while collecting water for Durga Puja rituals on Monday, police said.
The incident occurred at Gaura Ghat in the Barhaj area when four youths had gone to fill ceremonial pots (kalash) from the river. One of them was rescued by locals, while the remaining three "went missing in the river, officials said.
Circle officer (CO) Ashutosh Kumar said the group had gone to the ghat around 10 am as part of preparations for Durga idol installation in Nahchua village.
The police, along with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and divers, launched a day-long search operation but failed to recover the missing youths....
