3 Uttar Pradesh girls for Junior Hockey World Cup in Chile
LUCKNOW, Nov. 11 -- As many as three girls from Uttar Pradesh have been selected in the Indian squad for the FIH Women's Junior World Cup, scheduled to be held in Santiago, Chile from November 25 to December 13.
The 20-member squad, coached by former India international Tushar Khandker, features 18 players and two alternates. Three girls from Uttar Pradesh are: Sakshi Shukla, Purnima Yadav and Hina Bano.
India have been placed in Pool C and will open their campaign against Namibia on December 1, followed by matches against Germany on December 3 and Ireland on December 5. The top teams from each pool will progress to the knockout stages, which will be played from December 7 to 13.
Other players of the team are: Nidhi, Engil Harsha Rani MinzDefenders -- Manisha, Lalthanlualangi, Puja Sahoo, Nandini, Sakshi Rana, Ishika, Sunelita Toppo, Jyoti Singh, Khaidem Shileima Chanu, Binima Dhan, Sonam, Kanika Siwach, Sukhveer Kaur.
Two girls Priyanka Yadav and Parwati Topno have been selected as alternate players.
The nationwide trophy tour of the FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup 2025 will reach Lucknow on November 12, where chief minister Yogi Adityanath will unveil the trophy at his residence at 5 Kalidas Marg at 10 a.m.
Uttar Pradesh Hockey chief, RP Singh said that the trophy tour, which began last Friday from New Delhi has so far travelled to Panchkula, Chandigarh, Amritsar and will reach Jammu on Tuesday before coming to Lucknow on Wednesday.
In fact, the tour aims to build excitement and connect hockey fans across the nation in the lead-up to the global event, which will be held from November 28 to December 10 in Chennai and Madurai. The trophy will travel through 20 cities before returning to Tamil Nadu, giving fans across the country a chance to witness the trophy up close.
"The idea behind the trophy tour is to take the excitement of the FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup to every corner of India. It's a matter of great pride that in 2016, Lucknow played the host to the prestigious championship in which India emerged victorious," said RP Singh.
"We want hockey fans of the state capital to be a part of this celebration and to send their best wishes to the Indian team before they begin their campaign in Chennai," he said, adding, "Lucknow has seen the top greats of Indian hockey and here everyone loves this game."...
