VARANASI, May 31 -- Three boys drowned while bathing in the Ganga in Ballia district, a police official said on Friday. The boys from Sawanchapara and Bechanchhapara villages in the Bairia area of Ballia, left their homes on Thursday to attend coaching classes in the nearby village of Bhojpur, but tragically drowned in the Ganga near Jagdishpur Ghat. Their bodies surfaced in the river on Friday morning near the same ghat in Ballia, the official. According to police, the deceased were identified as Vinay Gond (14), Sandeep Gond (15), both residents of Sawanchhapra and Wasim (15), resident of Bechanchhapra under Dokati police station area of Ballia. All three were class 10 students. On Thursday evening, they left their homes for Bhojapur, a village in the vicinity, to take tuition classes. A police officer stated that their families began searching for them when they failed to return home by evening. Meanwhile, a local resident spotted their bicycles parked at Jagdishpur Ganga Ghat around 6 pm on Thursday. The officer added that upon reaching the scene, they spotted the belongings of the children. It was suspected that the trio may have drowned while bathing in the Ganga. Sub divisional magistrate of Bairia Alok Pratap Singh, circle officer of Bairia Mohd Faheem Qureshi and Dokati police station in-charge Harishankar Singh reached the spot with the police force. The search for the students began, but they could not be traced. On Friday morning, their bodies were found floating in the Ganga, said the police officer. With the help of local villagers, the police retrieved the bodies from the river, while the families were present at the scene.
