3 policemen use pvt vehicle to take accused for medical test, face action
Meerut, Aug. 1 -- Three police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were attached to police lines in Saharanpur after it was found that they took a man accused of bribery for medical examination to a hospital in a private vehicle bearing the party flag of the BJP.
The case dates back to July 25 when Ishwar Chand, a resident of Tirpadi village in Nakur, lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption team against one Ajay Kumar, a steno posted at the office of the district inspector of schools (DIoS).
Acting on the complaint, the team caught Ajay red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs.5,000. Once the formalities were completed, the accused was handed over to Sadar Bazar Police Station for further legal procedures.
However, the matter took a controversial turn the next day when Ajay Kumar was taken to the hospital for a routine medical examination. A video of the police transporting the accused in a private car sporting a BJP party flag quickly went viral on social media, inviting public criticism. Taking note of the videos circulating on social media, SSP Ashish Tiwari ordered an internal inquiry and appointed deputy superintendent of police Shailendra Pratap Gautam as the investigating officer.
The investigation found sub-inspector Shripal Nagar and two constables guilty of misconduct. All three officers have been removed from active duty and attached to police lines pending further departmental action....
