LUCKNOW, Jan. 12 -- Eleven days after the murder of a street vendor, Vikas Nagar police on Sunday claimed to have cracked the case with the arrest of three accused who allegedly crushed the victim to death with a brick and looted Rs.7,240 that he carried. During the probe, the police scanned nearly 1300 CCTV cameras. The victim, Lalaram, 40, a native of Sitapur district, sold puffed rice and grams on a roadside cart. He was found lying in a pool of blood on December 30, 2025, night. Alok Kumar Singh, station incharge, Vikas Nagar police station, said, "Post-mortem examination confirmed death due to severe head injuries, prompting us to register a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of the victim's wife Kiran Devi." "The arrested men have been identified as Sonu, 28, a painter, Dhanraj, 19, living in Madiyaon and hailing from Barabanki, and Rahul alias Shiva 25, living in Madiyaon and hailing from Ayodhya" read a press note by police. Singh said the trio had a prior dispute with the victim as all of them used to live on streets. They allegedly attacked Lalaram with a brick while he was asleep and later robbed him. A late-night burglary attempt saw a slight dramatic end as police guided the colony residents to set a trap that eventually led to the capture of the three armed suspects, police said. Around 2.40 am on Friday, the three men entered LDA Colony, Sector-F on a stolen motorcycle. They surveyed the houses and attempted to break the lock of one whose occupants were away. One of the residents alerted the police through '112'. Police contacted the caller, gathered details and chalked out a plan to prevent the suspects from escaping without alerting them.
