3 held for acid attack on woman in Mau
VARANASI, May 4 -- Three youths, including the main accused in the acid attack on a 27-year-old woman in Katihari village of Ghosi, Mau district, on May 1, were arrested near the Asna canal on Saturday morning, police said.
While the woman was returning to her village from a bank, bike-borne accused threw acid on her, causing 50 per cent burns. Her relatives rushed her to a hospital in Ghosi, from where doctors referred her to Varanasi for further treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother, a case was registered under sections 124(1), 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Ram Janam Singh Patel and his two accomplices, a police officer said.
ASP, Mau, Mahesh Singh Atri said that teams had been deployed in search of the accused. Acting on a tip-off that the suspects were near the Asna canal in Ghosi Kotwali area in the early hours of Saturday, a police team conducted a raid and arrested the trio. During interrogation, he confessed to throwing acid on the woman out of anger, police said....
