MEERUT, Aug. 9 -- A fast-track court in Bareilly on Thursday sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the abduction and murder of a 20-year-old woman in 2021, while acquitting two others for lack of evidence. Additional Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Yadav also imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 on each convict and ordered that Rs.75,000 from the collected amount be paid to the victim's parents as compensation. The case began on July 5, 2021, when the woman, a resident of the Baradari police station area, went missing. After days of unsuccessful search, her father filed a missing persons report on July 16, and on August 26, learned she was last seen with Rajveer of Puthi Sarai village, Badaun, who worked at Vajpayee's sweet shop in Subhashnagar, Bareilly. According to ADGC Suresh Babu Sahu, police reclassified the case under kidnapping charges and began tracking the woman's whereabouts. Analysis of her call detail records led them to Rajveer, who was arrested on October 1. During interrogation, Rajveer confessed to luring the victim into a romantic relationship, abducting her, and then killing her. Based on Rajveer's revelations, police identified four more suspects and also recovered the woman's skeleton. A DNA test confirmed the remains as those of the missing woman. Police filed the chargesheet on April 26, 2022. On Thursday, the court acquitted Ajit and Inglesh due to insufficient evidence, while Rajveer, Satyendra, and Govardhan were found guilty. htc...
