3-day international Buddhist conclave begins in Kushinagar
GORAKHPUR, April 1 -- A three-day International Buddhist Conclave began in Kushinagar on Tuesday, focusing on global peace, harmony and dialogue. Around 300 foreign delegates, along with monks, scholars and spiritual leaders from several countries, are taking part.
Cabinet minister and district in-charge Dinesh Pratap Singh said the relevance of Lord Buddha's message has increased in the present global situation. He said the path of peace and compassion offers solutions to modern challenges.
Speakers at the inaugural session stressed the need for global harmony and said the world needs Buddha's teachings in times of conflict. They expressed hope that the conclave would promote compassion, non-violence and coexistence, while strengthening Kushinagar's position on the global Buddhist circuit.
District magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar said holding the event at the Mahaparinirvana site would boost tourism, improve cultural ties and enhance the district's global importance.
Participants highlighted the importance of cultural dialogue and preserving Buddhist heritage.
The conclave will include sessions on peace-building, social harmony, sustainable development, tourism and international cooperation.
A monk said the conclave would focus on "Dhamma, dialogue and development," linking Buddhist philosophy with present-day governance and growth.
Organisers said delegates from countries such as Thailand, Sri Lanka, Japan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Nepal and Bhutan are expected. Cultural and spiritual programmes will also be held.
Authorities have made arrangements for large crowds, including pandals, parking and traffic management.
The event is expected to boost religious tourism in eastern Uttar Pradesh and raise Kushinagar's global profile....
