29-yr-old held over links with Pak-based terror outfits: Police
Dehradun, April 11 -- A 29-year-old man was arrested early on Friday for allegedly harbouring links with designated terror outfits in Pakistan and forwarding visuals of key locations in Dehradun to suspected handlers, police said.
The state's Special Task Force and local police conducted joint surveillance under "Operation Prahar", which led to the arrest, said an officer involved.
The accused, Vikrant Kashyap, lived in Jhajra in Premnagar, said senior superintendent of police (STF) Ajai Singh, adding that he was allegedly in contact with known terror operatives and ISI agents through social media. Police said he was found in possession of an illegal .32 bore pistol, seven live cartridges, and a spray paint can.
"Initial inputs suggested that Pakistani handlers were attempting to recruit Indian men to constitute sleeper cells through social media. Based on technical surveillance and human intelligence, the accused was identified and kept under watch," Singh said.
Police said that technical surveillance indicated that accused was tasked with sending videos and visuals of key locations in Dehradun to Pakistan.
These included places such as ISBT, police headquarters, and other important government buildings.
"During interrogation, Kashyap claimed that he came in contact with a known ISI agent due to social media posts made after Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala's death. He said that he had expressed a wish to take revenge for the killing, as he was a fan of Moosewala," said the SSP. He later began receiving instructions to carry out reconnaissance of important locations in Dehradun. He was also told that he had to blow up these places using bombs, and that a person named Gurjar would provide with the explosives, weapons and money," he said....
