LUCKNOW, Dec. 31 -- A total of 273 black spots have been identified in the six districts of Lucknow division, an official said on Tuesday. Among them, Lucknow has the highest 75 accident-prone zones, followed by Hardoi (67), Rae Bareli (45), Unnao (33), Sitapur (28) and Lakhimpur Kheri (25). Out of the 273 black spots, 149 come under the public works department, 122 under NHAI and one each under NH PWD and UPEIDA, the official added. The issue came up for discussion at a review meeting of the divisional road safety committee held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant. Officials were directed that all necessary measures, such as signages, speed breakers, road markings, proper lighting and barriers, must be in place there by February 15.
