Jaipur, July 29 -- To boost safety for women and children, Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) and emergency panic buttons will be installed in over 250,000 public transport vehicles, deputy chief minister Premchand Bairwa said on Monday. "The state government is making every possible effort to strengthen Rajasthan's transport system and make it safer for passengers. By adopting innovations and advanced technology, the government is enhancing both convenience and safety for commuters," Bairwa said while inaugurating the Vehicle Location Tracking System (VLTS) at the Transport Bhawan. He further said that these tracking systems will enable real-time monitoring of passenger safety. "In case of an emergency, pressing the panic button will instantly alert the control center, prompting an immediate response from the police emergency unit." He said that this project will ensure real-time monitoring of public service vehicles operating in the state and enhance passenger security. "The initiative is a significant step toward curbing illegal operations, overloading, and unauthorised route usage of public transport vehicles such as passenger buses, taxi cabs, maxi cabs, and vehicles authorized by the central or state government," the deputy CM said. "Under this system, a GPS-based device will be installed in every public service vehicle, allowing the Command and Control Center to track the live location of the vehicle. For administrative monitoring, a dedicated dashboard will provide real-time information on vehicle speed, route, stoppages, and the operational status of the tracking device," he said. "In case of emergencies, the panic button integrated with the system will enable passengers to receive immediate assistance through the State Emergency Response Support System (ERSS - 112)," said the deputy CM. This initiative has been launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, with a special focus on the safety of women and other vulnerable passengers. In Rajasthan, approximately 250,000 public service vehicles will be equipped with this GPS-based device and panic button. Currently, the VLTS has already been activated in 892 buses of the RSRTC...
