25 'professional' bail guarantors booked in Kaushambi, five held
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 5 -- Kaushambi district police have launched a major crackdown on those individuals identified as 'professional guarantors' who mislead courts by obtaining bail for multiple criminals using the same property records in violation of law.
Acting on the orders of Kaushambi SP Rajesh Kumar, Manjhanpur Kotwali police have registered cases against 25 such people, and arresting even as raids are going on at other suspected locations to apprehend the remaining accused, officials said.
In India, professional bail sureties-commonly known as bail bondsmen-do not exist for criminal cases. The practice is illegal, and courts require a personal guarantee from a solvent and responsible individual, typically a relative or friend. Anyone acting as a paid or 'professional bail guarantor' violates law.

The gang allegedly took bail for multiple criminals on a single property record in exchange for hefty sums of money. Upon receiving information about the racket, SP Rajesh Kumar directed SHO Sunil Kumar Singh of Manjhanpur police station to identify the culprits with DSP Shivank Singh monitoring the operation.
After nearly two weeks of surveillance, Kadipur police outpost in-charge Abhishek Yadav filed cases against 25 professional bail agents at Manjhanpur Kotwali on Monday under nine serious Sections. Five accused have already been apprehended, while searches for the others continue.
This is the first large-scale action against professional bail agents in Kaushambi. Previously, cases were only registered based on complaints or court orders. Confirming the operation, SP Rajesh Kumar said, "We are identifying more such individuals. No one will be spared. These people mislead the courts for personal gain."
The SP added, "Legally, taking bail for multiple people on a single property record is a criminal offence. The accused had created a business out of submitting false affidavits to courts. We are still identifying more such people, and no one will be spared."
Recently, Pratapgarh police also sent 11 individuals to jail for facilitating bail of hardened criminals involved in murder, robbery, loot, and cases under the Gangster Act in violation of the law....
