24-yr-old BHU student dies; students stage protest
VARANASI, Dec. 3 -- A student at Banaras Hindu University's (BHU) South Campus in Barkachha, under the Dehat Kotwali area of Mirzapur district, died on Sunday, police said.
The BHU administration stated that the 24-year-old student, a resident of Kota, Rajasthan, was a third-year BSc Agriculture student in his fifth semester. He lived in the Amravali Hostel on the South Campus. Around 10 am, while he was in the hostel, his health suddenly deteriorated and he fainted. Other students immediately informed the campus administration, which rushed him by ambulance to the Divisional Hospital, Mirzapur, where he died during treatment. The hospital has kept the body in the mortuary.
BHU South Campus chief security officer Manoj Mishra said the student died of a heart attack. The student's family has been informed, and they have left Kota for Mirzapur.
Enraged over the incident, fellow students blocked the Mirzapur-Sonbhadra road in front of the campus gate and launched a protest. They also blocked internal roads on the South Campus. Shouting slogans against the university administration, the students alleged that Anil Kumar Meena might have survived had proper medical facilities been available on campus.
Rural Kotwali police station in-charge, Inspector Amit Mishra, said the student died of a heart attack and that further action would be taken based on the post-mortem report....
