24-year-old man dies after bike hits flyover railing
PRAYAGRAJ, Jan. 5 -- A 24-year-old man was killed on Sunday when his motorcycle collided with the railing of a highway flyover, causing him to fall to the road below, police said.
The incident occurred near the Pratapgarh-Rae Bareli district border, involving four friends from Prayagraj who were returning on separate motorcycles after having lunch at a roadside dhaba. According to police, one of the riders lost control of his bike at high speed, causing it to crash into the flyover railing and get stuck, while the rider fell onto the road.
The deceased has been identified as Deep Chatterjee (24), a resident of Rajrooppur in the Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj. He was the only son in his family and worked as a cashier in a bank in Pratapgarh district.
Police said Deep had gone on a bike ride with his friends Harsh Sahu, Ichhit, and Harshit Pandey on Sunday, a holiday. After having lunch at a dhaba in Unchahar, Rae Bareli, they were returning to Prayagraj around 3 pm via the Kanpur-Varanasi Highway when the accident took place.
As they reached near Jahanabad village under Hathigwan police station limits, Deep's motorcycle went out of control while descending from the flyover and crashed into the railing. His helmet was completely shattered in the impact, and he suffered severe injuries from the fall.
Station house officer (SHO) Satyendra Singh said that, with the help of locals, the injured rider was rescued and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC)-Kunda, where doctors declared him dead.
On receiving the news, Deep's family rushed to the hospital.
The police have taken custody of the body for postmortem examination, and further legal action is underway. Police officials said that the group appeared to be fond of long-distance bike rides and creating social media reels, often using cameras mounted on their helmets....
