Dehradun, July 13 -- Ninety-three fake seers have been arrested in two days across state under Operation Kaalnemi, police said, adding that 23 were nabbed on Saturday. "Under Operation Kaalnemi, launched following the instructions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday, we arrested 23 fake seers on the second day (on Saturday). Of these, 10 people are from outside," said Ajai Singh, Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP), adding that 48 have been nabbed in Dehradun and 45 in Haridwar so far. In Dehradun, 25 fake seers, including a Bangladeshi citizen, were arrested on Friday. Dehradun police registered an FIR against the Bangladeshi citizen for illegally staying in the country, Singh said. According to police, he was found roaming in Sahaspur in the guise of a seer. Rukn Rakam (26) alias Shah Alam, resident of village Sakhipur in Tangail district, was booked under the Foreigners Act at Sahaspur police station. Singh said, "...fake seers have no real knowledge but exploit women and youth. They manipulate people, intimidate them, and use unethical means to harass and extort money. Such complaints have been received not only on the CM portal but also from other sources." "Six were arrested in the Kaliyar police station area, 13 in Kotwali, 18 in Shyampur, and eight in Kankhal on Saturday," SSP Haridwar Pramendra Dobhal said in a video statement. Additional director general of police (ADG), Intelligence, Uttarakhand, AP Anshuman, said: "There has been a rise in incidents where people, especially women, are being cheated by impersonators misusing religious attire. Such cases have the potential to disturb peace and law and order. We will conduct the drive to identify fake seers during the Kanwar Yatra, and will consider extending the campaign beyond this period if required." Welcoming the chief minister's decision, Garima Mehra Dasauni, chief spokesperson for the state Congress, said: "I welcome this decision... These days in Devbhoomi, we are witnessing how some people are committing crimes by wearing saffron... It is necessary to rein in such activities, even if it requires launching an operation named 'Kaalnemi'."...
