LUCKNOW, Aug. 21 -- The Uttar Pradesh secondary education department terminated the services of 22 teachers, including 14 women, in government schools on Wednesday after their appointments were found to be based on forged documents and fake mark sheets. Director of secondary education, Mahendra Dev, also directed the recovery of the salaries paid to them and ordered that an FIR (first information report) be registered against the accused teachers. The appointments were made in 2016 for assistant teacher posts in the Azamgarh division. The selection process was based on merit, calculated from educational qualifications, including high school, intermediate, graduation, and training certificates. According to officials, the department carried out detailed verification of the records submitted during counselling. The scrutiny revealed that the mark sheets and certificates of 22 candidates were forged.
