2022 case: E-bus driver gets life term for killing six in Kanpur
KANPUR, May 14 -- A court in Kanpur on Tuesday sentenced an e-bus driver to life imprisonment for causing deaths of six people in a reckless driving incident that occurred in January 2022.
The additional district judge (14) also imposed a total fine of Rs 45,000 on the convict Satyendra Singh, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court held Singh guilty under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC on Monday. The tragic incident occurred on the night of January 30, 2022, near the Tatmill crossing in Kanpur's Rail Bazar police station area. As per police reports, an e-bus operated by the Kanpur City Transport Company lost control around 11 pm. The bus first collided with a car coming from the opposite direction and continued to plough through the road, striking multiple pedestrians and vehicles before coming to a halt at Tatmill crossing.
Six people had died in the accident while several others sustained injuries. Later, police registered an FIR and arrested the driver. District government counsel Bhaskar Mishra said during the trial the prosecution presented eyewitness testimonies and forensic evidence, based on which the court found the accused guilty.htc...
