2014 celebratory firing case: Two sentenced to 10 years, fine
Kanpur, Dec. 3 -- A court on Tuesday sentenced two men to 10 years' imprisonment for celebratory firing that led to the death of a girl in Indpamau village, Bidhuna, over a decade ago.
The additional sessions judge (first), Parul Jain, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each man, directing that the amount be paid to the victim's brother, Tej Singh.
The case dates back to May 2014, when Tej Singh, a resident of Purva Joran village, Dibiyapur, filed a report with Bidhuna police in Auraiya district. His sister, Usha Devi, a BA student, was attending a tilak ceremony in Indpamau when the incident occurred. The accused, Deep Chandra and his neighbour Nazir, were dancing and firing in the air. One stray bullet struck Usha near her right ear. She was rushed to Kanpur for treatment but succumbed.
A case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC was registered against the two men.
After hearing both sides, the court sentenced Deep Chandra and Nazir to 10 years' imprisonment. The convicts were immediately sent to Etawah jail. htc...
