200 liquor bottles meant for Bihar seized from Lko hotel
LUCKNOW, March 3 -- The Lucknow Police busted an alleged inter-state bootlegging attempt, arresting three men from a hotel in central Lucknow and seizing 200 bottles of Haryana-manufactured English liquor reportedly meant for illegal sale in dry Bihar, on Monday.
"The arrests were made by the Qaiserbagh Police Station team from Diamond Hotel on March 1 around 7.30 pm following a tip-off," said Kamlesh Dixit, DCP, crime.
"The accused Sunil, 34, from Raxaul in East Champaran, Rahul Kumar Pasi, 20, from Chakia in East Champaran, and Shubham Patel, 21, from Muzaffarpur had allegedly stocked up on liquor to transport it to Bihar, where a complete prohibition has been in force since 2016.
"During questioning, the accused revealed that they procure liquor from Haryana and transport it to Bihar for sale, particularly ahead of festivals like Holi when demand surges due to the ban," the DCP added.
"The seized consignment included 123 bottles of Royal Stag, 61 bottles of Blenders Pride, eight bottles of Signature and eight bottles of Red Label. Police believe the accused were planning to move the stock to Bihar in phases to avoid detection," a press note read.
An FIR has been registered under Section 60 of the Excise Act. The accused have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to trace the supply network and identify other members of the alleged smuggling chain....
