Dehradun, July 15 -- The special task force (STF) of Uttarakhand police has arrested a 20-year-old man for his alleged involved in a Rs.3.70 crore jewellery showroom robbery in Bihar's Purnia in July 2024, police said. On July 26, 2024, six men masquerading as customers looted gold and diamond jewellery at gunpoint from a Tanishq showroom in Bihar's Purnia after snatching mobile phones and locking all 22 staff in a room. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) (STF) Navneet Singh said, "We arrested the accused, Mohammad Rahul alias Shakib, a resident of Purnia, on Sunday from Kaliyar police station area in Haridwar. He is facing a case registered at Khajanchi Hat police station under relevant sections of the 310(2), 311, 111, 249, 238 of the BNS and relevant sections of the Arms Act for robbery at Tanishq showroom in July 2024." "One of the six accused, Chunmun Jha was killed in a police encounter, while four other accused are in jail. Accused Mohammad Rahul was absconding since the incident. Our team received a tip off from our counterparts in Bihar that he was living in Kaliyar police station area in Haridwar. Our team raided the area and arrested the accused," he said. The SSP said, "Accused Shakib and Chunmun Jha along with other members of their gang murdered a leader of Lok Janshakti Party in 2021. An FIR in this regard was registered at Khajanchi Hat police station. He served two years in jail in the case."
