PRAYAGRAJ, May 20 -- A 20-year-old man from Ambedkar Nagar district allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself in the head with a country-made pistol here in Karelabagh locality under Kareli police station limits late Sunday night, police said on Monday.The deceased had been living in a rented accommodation along with his two elder brothers. All three worked as marble flooring contractors. On Sunday night, the youth reportedly received a phone call around 9 pm, after which he left the room in anger, his brothers told police. Police investigation revealed that the youth was in a relationship with a friend's sister. Mobile phone records showed a voice message from the girl asking to end the relationship. In response, the youth sent a photograph of himself holding a pistol. It is suspected that the youth left the house after this conversation. When the youth did not return, his brothers searched for him and found his body on the riverbank, with a pistol in his hand. Fearing police action, the brothers discarded the pistol in nearby bushes before calling emergency services. Police recovered the pistol at the location given by the brothers. The weapon contained one loaded cartridge, while three live cartridges were found in the deceased's pocket.DCP (City) Abhishek Bharti confirmed that the postmortem report stated death was caused by a gunshot wound.
