20 farmers detained, 100 tractors seized at Churu farmers' stir
Jaipur, Nov. 18 -- At least 20 farmers were detained and over 100 tractors were seized on Monday after hundreds of farmers led by Churu MP Rahul Kaswan took out a mega rally from the district towards the Jaipur over several demands regarding a fair MSP and crop insurance issues, said police.
The rally was taken out from Churu's Rajgarh at 11am and stopped at Ratangarh village when they were crossing the Nh-58, said police.
Police added that Kaswan along with the protesting farmers, MLA Narendra Budaniya, and Pusaram Godara also staged a sit-in on the highway. The SP and the collector soon reached the spot and assured the protesters to take care of their demands, they said.
"There is about Rs.500 crore crop insurance payments pending since 2021. It was stalled due to some administrative disputes. In February this year, the department directed to release the fund to the farmers, however it was cancelled by the Churu collector in September without clarifying any reason. Our major demand is to clear these pending payments. We also demand the government to revise its MSP and ensure a better monitoring system," Kaswan told reporters.
"The government is ignorant to the issue. They have tried to stop us undemocratically. However, a delegation will meet the CM, agriculture minister, and the Churu district-in-charge minister Avinash Gehlot tomorrow. A meeting is also scheduled with the officials of agriculture and finance departments, and two insurance companies in Jaipur tomorrow," he added....
