Lucknow, Dec. 16 -- Two new bridges will be constructed over the Behta in Lucknow to ease long-standing transportation problems faced by thousands of residents, particularly during the monsoon season. The bridges will be built between Rahimabad-Jhaubariya and near Malihabad and another one between Pipraghat and Bakhtiyarnagar. Each bridge will be 80.08 metres long and will include dedicated approach roads to ensure smooth connectivity. The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation will execute the construction. According to officials of US State Bridge Corporation both projects have been included in the department's work plan for the current financial year. Officials say that at Jhaubariya, a small 30-metre bridge already exists over the Behta stream, built on a hume pipe structure. However, during the rainy season, rising water levels submerge the structure, completely cutting off movement. In Bakhtiyarnagar, locals currently rely on a temporary low-level crossing to cross the river. This too becomes unusable during heavy rainfall. As a result, people are forced to travel more than 20km extra to reach Lucknow and nearby areas. The total cost of the two projects is estimated at Rs 25.76 crore.HTC...
