Bhopal, Nov. 26 -- A 50-year-old anganwadi worker, appointed as a booth level officer (BLO) in Balaghat district, died on Tuesday after being ill for over 10 days, while another 54-year-old BLO in Shahdol district died of heart attack on Monday, officials said. In the past two weeks, seven BLOs in the state have died. While officials termed the deaths natural, family members blamed "excessive pressure" of enumeration work under the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR). "My father received a call from an officer and immediately after hanging up, his health worsened. He informed me over the phone before collapsing. He was rushed to the medical college but was declared brought dead," said Aditya Napit, son of Maniram Napit who was a BLO in Shahdol's Pateriya village. Aditya said his father, who suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure, was under immense pressure to meet BLO targets. Anita Nageshwar, who served as a BLO at Balaghat's Botta, had fallen ill on November 13 and was referred to Nagpur, but her condition did not improve, her daughter Aarti said. "My mother health deteriorated due to the heavy workload after being assigned BLO duties," Aarti said.
