2 months on, husband, in-laws booked
LUCKNOW, Dec. 1 -- Two months after a 28-year-old woman's death in Sarojininagar, her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry-related murder. Banthra police registered an FIR on November 29 against the husband and ten family members, citing alleged harassment and conspiracy, following a complaint submitted to the police commissioner.
The FIR names the husband, Ajit Kumar and ten members of his family and has been registered under BNS sections 85, 115(2), 352, 351(3), and 108. It includes allegations of harassment, assault, and conspiracy linked to the woman's death.
Santosh Kumar, the victim's brother, said his sister faced years of abuse from her husband and in-laws, who were dissatisfied with the dowry and repeatedly demanded a four-wheeler. The FIR claims the woman endured both physical and mental harassment from her husband, parents-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law.
According to the complaint, when Ishika gave birth to a daughter in 2019 at a hospital, her in-laws offered no support, leaving her maternal family to bear all expenses. She had earlier approached the Women's Commission and filed a maintenance case, and in 2022, was sent back to her marital home following community mediation.
In the FIR, Santosh alleged that on September 15, the family was informed of his sister's alleged suicide. Upon reaching the house, they were reportedly not allowed inside, and the body had allegedly been removed before police arrival. Video evidence provided by villagers, the family claims, shows injury marks and other suspicious circumstances, strengthening their suspicion of dowry-related murder. The family has also accused the local police of initial negligence, alleging they acted under pressure from the in-laws....
