BAREILLY, Sept. 18 -- Two notorious criminals and members of the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang were killed in an encounter in Ghaziabad in the early hours of Wednesday in connection with the September 12 firing at the Civil Lines residence of Bollywood actress Disha Patani in Bareilly, police said. According to officials, the slain accused were identified as Ravindra, son of Kallu from Kahni village in Rohtak (Haryana), and Arun, son of Rajendra from Indian Colony on Gohana Road in Sonipat (Haryana). Both sustained injuries during the encounter and were admitted to a hospital where they died during treatment. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had taken cognisance of the incident, directing the UP Special Task Force (STF) to investigate and ensure stringent action in line with the government's zero-tolerance policy towards crime. On Sunday (September 14) night, he had spoken to Disha Patani's father, Jagdish Singh Patani, a retired deputy superintendent of police, assuring him of the family's safety. "The accused will be traced even from the underworld. The responsibility for your family's safety rests with the government. Please rest assured," the CM had told him. "Through meticulous investigation involving intelligence inputs, analysis of CCTV footage from Bareilly and adjoining areas, cross-referencing with crime databases in Haryana and Delhi, and advanced technical analysis, authorities identified Ravindra and Arun as the perpetrators. Both were active members of the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang, notorious for extortion, targeted killings, and arms trafficking across northern India. Ravindra alone had over a dozen prior cases, including attempted murder and extortion in Haryana," additional director general of police and UP STF chief Amitabh Yash said. At around 4am on Wednesday, a joint operation by the Noida unit of the UP STF and the Delhi Police crime investigation unit tracked the duo to a hideout near Tronica City police station in Ghaziabad. Acting on precise intelligence, the teams cornered the suspects, who opened fire to evade capture. In the ensuing exchange, both were injured and later apprehended, officials said, adding both succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Two sophisticated firearms -- a Glock 19 pistol and a Zigana pistol -- along with 24 live cartridges and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from the spot.Preliminary investigations suggest the firing at Patani's residence was part of an extortion attempt, with her family targeted due to her high-profile status. An STF official said the gang might have monitored the property for weeks. Police were also probing possible links to other recent extortion cases in the state, he added.
