2 held with marijuana worth Rs.2.49 at Lko airport
LUCKNOW, Sept. 17 -- Customs officials at the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport here intercepted two passengers allegedly involved in the smuggling of high-grade hydroponic marijuana valued at Rs.2.49 crore.
Acting on an intelligence input, Abid Memon, 40, of Mumbai, and Amir Khan, 28, of Barabanki were apprehended late on Monday night. The duo had arrived from Bangkok. Deputy commissioner of customs Nandeshwar Singh said probe was on to trace the wider network behind the smuggling attempt.
On screening their baggage, officials noticed suspicious X-ray images in Khan's luggage. A detailed examination led to the recovery of a grey trolley bag containing eight plastic-wrapped packets of green flowering tops, suspected to be high-grade ganja or hydroponic weed. The total gross weight of the substance was 4.471 kg, with a net weight of 2.493 kg.
During questioning, Khan admitted that the bag had been handed over to him by Memon at the Bangkok airport. Following the seizure, both individuals were placed under arrest on Tuesday under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. htc...
