2 held in Haldwani for drug trafficking; smack worth Rs.82.5 lakh, 26 narcotic injections seized
Haldwani, Jan. 8 -- Nainital police arrested two persons in separate drug trafficking cases in Haldwani, recovering 275 grams of smack and several narcotic injections, officials said on Wednesday.
In the first case, police seized 275 grams of smack, valued at about Rs.82.50 lakh in the international market, from a motorcyclist during a vehicle check.
Superintendent of police (city) Manoj Katyal said the action was part of the Drugs-Free Devbhoomi Mission, under which police are stepping up the crackdown on drug traffickers.
"On Tuesday night, police teams were checking vehicles on the Gaula bypass near Kunwarpur village in Kathgodam when a motorcycle (UK 18R 6945) was spotted. When signalled to stop, the rider attempted to flee but was chased and apprehended," Katyal said.
The accused was identified as Manjit Singh (35), a resident of Tukdi village in the Nanakmatta area of Udham Singh Nagar district.
"During a search, 275 grams of smack was recovered from his possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that he was bringing the contraband from Nanakmatta to sell in Haldwani," the officer said.
Police booked him under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. He was produced in court on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody.
In another incident, police arrested Abhishek Arya, a resident of Narayan Nagar, Kusumkheda, near the railway tracks along the Gaula river in Banbhulpura, and recovered 26 narcotic injections from him.
