2 held in Bulandshahr for waving Palestinian flag
Meerut, Sept. 7 -- Two youths have been arrested for waving a Palestinian flag during the Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession in Bulandshahr. The arrests were made on Saturday after a video of the act, which occurred in full view of administrative and police officials on Friday, went viral on social media.
The incident drew the attention of law enforcement officials immediately.
Acting on a complaint filed by Kasba police outpost in-charge Deepak Chahar, police identified the youths from the viral footage and registered a case against them.
Superintendent of police (rural), Tejveer Singh, confirmed the arrests, naming the accused as Owais, son of Ashraf, and Suja, son of Khalid, both residents of Mohalla Noorwafan. The two have been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 299B (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings).
Officials stated that the action was taken because the duo's conduct violated guidelines issued during a peace committee meeting held by the administration ahead of the procession.
Police officials indicated that further investigation is underway to determine whether there was any organised intent behind the act, which has stirred local discussions about maintaining communal harmony during religious events....
