Dehradun, May 12 -- Almora Police arrested two men from two different locations in Gujarat for allegedly duping elderly people in two cases of digital arrest, a police official said. In the first case registered at Almora police station, the police arrested a man from Morbi in Gujarat who had defrauded two elderly men to the tune of Rs.75 lakh by digitally arresting them for 15 days. In another case registered at Lamgara police station, the police booked another man from Jamnagar in Gujarat for allegedly duping an elderly man of Rs. 7 lakh by digitally arresting him for 5 days. Almora senior superintendent of police Devendra Pincha said cases had been registered under relevant sections of the BNS for cheating, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt and criminal conspiracy. In 'digital arrests,' scammers often call a potential victim claiming that a parcel they've sent or are about to receive has been intercepted and contains illegal items like drugs or fake passports.
