Varanasi, May 29 -- Two girls died and five others sustained burns when lightning struck them in Nandan Majhigwan Uchka Mohalla under Halia police station area in Mirzapur on Wednesday afternoon, police said. Police reported that both the victim's family and neighbourhood residents were sitting under a neem tree outside their house. Suddenly, it began thundering, and before people could react, lightning struck them. Two girls, 10-year-old and 11-year-old, died on the spot. Five others suffered burns and were rushed to the hospital. Police took possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Sub divisional magistrate of Lalganj, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, inspected the scene and then visited the hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured.
