2 detained with pistol, cartridges at civil court
LUCKNOW, Feb. 27 -- Two men in their 30s were detained from the Lucknow civil court premises on Thursday after police recovered a pistol and four live cartridges from them during a security check, Qaisarbagh police said.
According to the police, one of the accused has a case pending against him in an NIA court. Authorities are trying to ascertain the intention behind bringing a weapon into the court complex.
Police identified the accused as Bhanu Pratap Yadav, a resident of Rajajipuram, and Lalchand, a resident of Aman Vihar in Thakurganj area in the state capital. The police said Bhanu Pratap Yadav was intercepted at Gate No. 8 of the court complex during routine frisking. A .32 bore pistol and four live cartridges were recovered from his possession.
Officers present at the spot said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was also carrying a briefcase. During questioning, Bhanu claimed that the weapon was licensed. However, he failed to produce any licence.
The police said they are examining the role of Lalchand, who accompanied Bhanu to the court complex, and trying to determine why he was present and whether he was aware of the weapon. "Questioning is underway. We are verifying the credentials of both individuals and the status of the weapon," a police officer said....
