2,975 sanitation staff likely to be shifted from Prayagraj to Bhadohi
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 26 -- Around 2,975 sanitation workers in Prayagraj may soon be transferred to Bhadohi, as per a recent move by the Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Department. These workers became surplus in 2019 after 206 gram panchayats and one town area were included within the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation.
Since then, the workers have been doing temporary duties in different parts of the district, according to officials. After years of discussion about whether to reassign or remove these workers, the department has now begun work to send them to Bhadohi, where there is said to be a shortage of sanitation staff.
However, the decision has led to protest. Many workers are visiting the Panchayati Raj office daily, asking to be posted in nearby rural areas instead of being sent into the urban system. "Further steps will be taken after administrative approval is received. A plan is also being discussed to shift workers to nearby districts," said Ravi Shankar Dwivedi, district panchayati raj officer....
